My Suggestions on Driver Cell Phone Bans

These days bans on the use of cell phones in driving have been being paid a great deal of attention to both online and offline. It is reported that 6 out of 10 of car accidents happened because of cell phones and alcohol. The unsafe part alcohol plays in car accidents has been recognized since vehicle came into being and official bans on after-alcohol driving have been implemented|performed} in most countries and regions all over the globe. But the use of cell phones in driving, however, is not banned officially worldwide until now. Anyway, the increasing number of car accidents due to cellular phones has raised much attention to the issue of banning the use of cell phones among drivers in America. As far as I am concerned, I completely support the idea that it is not a good idea to have cell phone conversions in driving cars, but I don't think it necessary to ban mobile phones in driving.

We all know that mobile phone conversations are a significant distraction for those who are driving, but similarly, people know well about the potential hazard using cell phones while driving. I mean, it all boils down to whether people are willing to risk lives to use cellular phones in driving or not. For serious life lovers, they would certainly reject to reply to the coming phone calls when they are driving, or to pull over right away and park the car to answer the call. For don't care much about risks, they know the menace of course, but they are likely to put their lives on luck. "Yes, car accidents caused by cell phone conversations happen every day, but I won't be that bad luck to run into such accidents" thoughts like this root deeply in the hearts of this group of people. As a result, they opt to put aside the danger and use cellular phones when they need to.

On the one hand, the prohibition on cell phones in driving may help to reduce car accidents, but only on the condition that people will conform to the banning policy. I mean, even there are bans on mobile phones among drivers, people may ignore the policy and keep on to have mobile phone conversatioins in driving, just like those who drive after drinking alcohol despite of the bans—they are not afraid of getting tickets. Surely, like before, they don't think they are ‘lucky' enough to encounter car accidents just because they use cell phones in driving.

On the other hand, the inhibition may annoy those who often use cell phones either for work or for personal stuff. Among these people, while some are luck-riskers, most of them try hard to figure out every possible way to avoid car accidents in driving. For instance, use hands-free cell phone accessories including earphone with mic, Bluetooth, etc. In this sense, bans on mobile phones in driving are just not necessary as serious people can find ways to protect themselves from car accidents in using mobile phones. What would people feel when they missed the urgent phone call while he is driving just because he doesn't want to violate the banning rules? The phone call may be connected with a job chance or a business deal! In addition, since cell phones become prevalent among the masses, it would be difficult for people to give up their habit of answering incoming phone calls on time. An even bigger distraction may occur if refuse to answer calls as they can't help thinking about things like where the call come from, what the phone call matters, etc.

All in all, I hold the idea that bans on mobile phones are not a good option to minimize car accidents. What we are supposed to do is to raise the awareness of the danger of having cellular phone conversations carelessly while driving. And the key point is: drivers should learn to take good care of
